Annual Flowers

An important element to many flower displays is annuals. Whether your back yard is paradise, driveway entrances a masterpiece, or vibrant flower pots your flavor, we should be your final answer.

Colors say more than "I'm a pretty flower". In fact you should think of flowers the way you would consider dressing for an important event.

Using the right colors for your environment and the right textures to compliment are a must.

Our experienced flower display planing will make guests jealous of your work of art. In addition to annuals we often mix in perennials. Because perennials return every year this reduces the number of future plantings and the costs associated.

pansy

Pansy

With both winter and spring blooming varieties, if you love them they can be yours for half the year. These are great in planter and garden displays and have a very large variety of colors available. One great benefit of the pansy is that they're tougher than most during deep freezes. Even when a potted pansy is frozen solid it still maintains its cool and performs when thawed out.

pink geranium

Geranium

Geraniums are one of our favorite summer flower display plants. With regular deadheading, fertilizing and watering you'll have a fantastic flower display. Geraniums love full sun to only partial shade and well draining soil. Colors range from white, peach, red, pink, and purple. There are some new mixed color varieties as well. Water deep early mornings and lightly in the evening while there's still an hour or two of daylight left. Watering after dark should be avoided as this will encourage powdery mildew. 6 inches -12 inches tall and up to 10 inches wide.

Petunia

Petunia

Has a trumpet shaped blossom that closes in the evening and reopens in the morning. Colors are very vibrant and cover a wide color spectrum. Originally from South America, this flower has been hybrid to produce an abundance of blossoms. With proper planting, fertilizer, water, and some sun you can have a trumpeting carpet of color for much of the summer. We like to plant petunia's about 4 inches - 6 inches apart and fertilize with 16-16-16. Don't plant in shady areas or water after early evening, as they are prone to powdery mildew without a good dose of sun. A balanced soil is best, well draining moist but not wet to the touch.

Geranium

Geranium

One of our very favorite in summer displays. This gem of annuals will produce splendor worthy of royalty throughout the summer months. Brilliant red, peach, white, and pink are some of the more common colors for display quality. Pinching off spent or nearly spent blossoms on a weekly basis greatly increases blossom count and duration of blooming period. Watering and fertilizing regularly is very critical also for production. If you forget to water for awhile they will generally perk back up with a reduced blossom set. Although an annual they can be dug in fall prior to heavy frost and stored for next season. For storage simply dig, place in a cardboard box (no lid) and off to the side in a garage or shed out of danger of freezing. 10 inches - 12 inches tall and 6 inches - 10 inches wide. Full sun to partial shade.

Impatiens

Impatiens

An incredible carpet of color many are drawn to this on-the-go flower from year to year. Impatient as it may be the display is well worth the trouble. Growing well requires well draining soil, lots of watering, fertilizer, and sun. There are those who swear by a partial sun shade environment while we've found them to do very well in full sun. Although originally a weed in Costa Rica hybrid impatiens and New Guinea impatiens are very popular indeed. They're used from hanging baskets to potted and garden displays. 6 inches - 14 inches tall, 4 inches - 12 inches wide, full sun to partial shade.

Marigold

Marigold

This flower is generally orange or yellow and often planted in large quantities in border beds. The smell of marigolds is distinct and you either love it or hate it. For this reason we often recommend planting outer beds. Despite the strong fragrance that is a base for some perfumes, this flower makes excellent color. Semi drought tolerant it requires occasional watering to really perform. 6 inches - 11 inches tall and 4 inches - 6 inches wide, Full sun.

Alyssum

Alyssum

An annual ground cover Alyssum is best planted on the fringes of a garden display, rock walls, or hanging over the edges of planters. Alyssum naturally grows like a carpet of very pleasant smelling tiny flowers. The colors are limited to pink, purple, and white but don't let that stop you from trying out this beautiful annual. 2 inches - 4 inches tall, 6 inches - 10 inches wide, full sun to partial shade.
