Strawberry |
Strawberry shortcake, shake, Margarita, Strawberry Ice cream, Jam, Jelly, wine, in food on food we even celebrate the strawberry with festivals, books, and art. Just the word strawberry takes me places and makes my mouth water in delight. There are many varieties of these pleasant treats some producing heavily in June and others ever bearing throughout the summer. Generally June berries are much larger and ever-bearing varieties smaller and sweeter. Plant in full sun to partial shade with well draining soil mixed with compost or composted cow manure. Use as final/overhanging tier in planters or as a ground cover.
Our favorite June bearing variety is "Rainier" which produces very large tasty fruit. For ever bearing we prefer "Seascape" or "Quinault" both producing large berries. |
